Coffee Safari Invitation

Do you yearn for Yirgacheffe?

See the birthplace of coffee and take in the animals of the African wilderness, completing your coffee education in style. Swap your business suit for safari shorts and take your addiction on tour!

Join Rob Forsyth, on a tour of the birthplace of coffee; visiting Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. Rob would love you to join him and other like minded coffee connoisseurs to explore the origins of some of the world’s most savoured beans. Let his knowledge guide you through plantations such as the Bebeka Coffee Plantation - producer of the famous (and delicious) Ethiopian Bebeka coffee; the Dorman factory and plantation in Kenya and the 2,100 acre Burka Coffee Estate of Tanzania where you will witness and taste the full process of coffee production with both fermentation and roasting on site as well as a lodge and restaurant offering traditional and western meals with fresh local produce. Tour the many cafes and learn more about espresso coffee.

Your inner explorer will not want for delights, with plenty of opportunities to experience the natural wonders of the continent that brought us coffee. Two days will be spent taking in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve which boasts an extensive array of wildlife including

elephants, giraffes, zebra and lions (oh my!). We will also visit the Flamingo sanctuary at Lake Naruku National park and Lodge, home not only to impressive birdlife but also waterbucks, impalas, leopards and pythons amongst acacia and euphorbia trees. At Tanzania’s Serengeti Sopa Lodge we will take in further game drives, swimming and generally soaking up some serious relaxation, safari style. A stay at Nisima Ngenda tented camp will allow a visit local tribes including Datoga and Hadzabe bushmen.

We plan to see the beginning of the animals’ migration, and avoid the peak of the tourist season, which would mean a departure from Sydney in early June next year.

Ted Lingle on behalf of the SCAA signs L.O.U. with the

Australasian Specialty Coffee Association. (AASCA)

The World of Specialty coffee took another step forward at the SCAA conference in Anaheim recently when the newly formed Australasian Specialty Coffee Association signed a Letter Of Understanding with the Specialty Coffee Association of America.   This signifies the mutual aims of the two Associations which are to foster Specialty coffee in all its aspects from seed to cup or “paddock to palate” as the Aussies like to say.

The new Association although initiated in Australia will focus on the very fast-growing coffee region of Asia.  It will run along similar lines to the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe, with separate chapters in each respective country.

One of the key factors will be the emphasis on education, something which coffee lovers are hungry for in the Asian region.  AASCA aims to spread the same level of coffee excellence and expertise that SCAA and SCAE have provided in their regions.

The Australasian Specialty coffee association welcomes all categories of members including barista’s, café operators, trainers as well as roasters and growers.  Growers are increasingly springing up in the Australasian region and people who are new to the industry will be able to avail themselves of all the same great SCAA educational material through the Australasian association.  The LOU signing gives members of AASCA associate membership of the SCAA and access to all the benefits of being a SCAA member.

Guest Barista Days

16 February 2002

NAREMBURN - On Saturday 16 February 2002, the Honourable Peter Collins QC MP (Member for Willoughby) and Tony Eastley (ABC News) as well as the fabulous Pascale Fox from Channel Sevens Groundforce, stepped behind the coffee carts at Forsyth Coffee and Tea. In celebration of National Specialty Coffee Week (NSCW), February 10-17, 2002, our guest baristas frothed up caffe lattes and cappucinos like professionals.

Mr. Rob Forsyth (owner and specialty coffee roaster) enjoyed the highly successful (if hot!) day and was pleased to aid such a valuable charity as Canteen (The Australian Organization for Young People Living with Cancer); 'Events such as these are important to promote essential charities like CanTeen as well as to bring the community together in support of  local businesses.'

Forsyth Coffee and Tea participates annually in NSCW, which was established by the Specialty Coffee association of America in 1997, with various in-store promotions and feature origin coffees of the day.

All proceeds from the Forsyth Coffee and Tea Guest Barista Day 16 February 2002, went to CanTeen (The Australian Organization for Young People Living with Cancer).
