It will include one day for bubbling coffee brewers to practice and show off their skills to coffee lovers and the general public before Monday when 7 judges will determine if the mid north coast have the Barista Artist that will go onto the NSW titles and possibly on to win gold for Australia in Tokyo 2007.
Opal Cove Resort is proud to participate in this the one of the regional legs of the national competition and we encourage all budding Barista competitors from Taree to Tweed to froth up their milk grind their beans and go for gold.
Opal Cove Resort will be hosting the 7 judges and over the two days, public and guests to the resort will be treated to a coffee coinsures heaven and who knows it could be your local café that wins.
Opal Cove Resort will also be holding an industry symposium for café owner’s business people and very serious coffee lovers over the 2 days. Industry leaders in coffee machines, coffee growers, and suppliers will be demonstrating, discussing and sampling the little brown beans and machines that turn them into cups of heaven.
If you work in the hospitality café or resort industry this will be the event of the year, and registrations will cost $110 which includes entry into the competition, access to the symposium and as much coffee as you can drink. Friend’s family and coffee addicts can watch the events sample the competitors’ efforts and look through the symposium for just $5 per head entry fee.
So if your new year’s resolution was to drink less coffee we encourage you to modify that slightly to Drink Better Coffee in 2007 and look forward to seeing you at the Coffs Coast Barista Jam of in early February at Opal Cove Resort Coffs Harbour.

AASCA
The Australasian Specialty Coffee Association (AASCA) was founded in 2001 by a group of coffee industry people dedicated to seeing the creation of an association committed to the improvement of quality methods and practices amongst growers, roasters, cafes, baristas, and the community in general. Their only interest was to provide advice, support and training to the Specialty end of the coffee market throughout Australasia– the end committed to the best possible product and the best possible outcomes.
AASCA has over 15 categories of membership and is open to anyone with an interest in specialty coffee.
AASCA has secured the rights as the only pathway for baristas to compete for Team Australia at the World Championship through its relationship with the other major specialty coffee associations: - the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE), the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA), and the World Barista Committee(WBC).
For information regarding the association or the competition, please see our website or bulletin board – www.aasca.com
