Kopi Luwak

one of the most expensive coffees in the world

Kopi Luwak is found in the droppings of the Luwak or Civet, a cat-like creature that resides in the forests of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The Luwak seeks out the bright red cherries of the coffee shrub for nourishment. After the cherry is eaten, the fruit its seed pass through the animals digestive tract where it undergoes a chemical ripening brought on throught the naturally occuring enzymes in the civets stomach. Coffee pickers comb through the luwak's droppings for the seeds, clean them and remove the husks which enclose the bean. It is not completly clear why Kopi Luwak has such a special taste. One theory is that the luwak is an expert at choosing the best beans. But when an entire years crop only yeilds about 700lbs of beans you can really appreciate how special this stuff is!

For a tasting of Kopi Luwak we need to roast the coffee specially. So please ring and book a time with Rob. Allow yourself 30 mins or more for the actual cupping.

Rob will take you thru the art of cupping and will specially brew the cup so you will enjoy your Kopi Luwak. Cost is $50 per person, with a minimum of 4 people.
